CHRISTOPHER KEMPEL, FOUNDING PRINCIPAL

Boutique West Coast residential firm Kempel Architects is led by Christopher Kempel. Long fascinated by the visual arts, Kempel chose to combine his passion for architecture, nature, drawing and building through his studies at the NCSU School of Design and the UCLA Master of Architecture program. He also studied at the Weißensee Kunsthocheschule in Berlin, an interdisciplinary, international program that views society and art as symbiotic.

Today Kempel brings that approach to his residential designs. He believes a well-designed home can positively impact the lives of its owners and as a result, prioritizes excellence in craft with a passion for the finest details. These details matter because they all add up to a life well-lived.

Kempel’s interest in improving life through design extends to his personal life, as well. He believes in finding ways to use architecture to give back and uses his AIA affiliations to do so. He contributes to California’s professional licensing process and gives his time to organizations at home (Los Angeles Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, Downtown’s Union Rescue Mission) and abroad (volunteer work in Haiti, Venezuela, Egypt, and Northern Ireland).

WILLAMETTE VALLEY RESIDENCE

Kempel Architects’ designs are led by the interplay of client needs and environmental context. With its clean lines and focus on outdoor landscape, the Willamette Valley Residence is a jewel of its north woods setting. Infratech heaters were chosen to maintain the simplicity of the design while providing effective heat in the slightly lower-than-average outdoor ceiling areas. Kempel chose Infratech’s Marine Upgrade to ensure the heaters would look and work like new for years to come in the region’s climate.

Kempel Architects chooses Infratech heaters for their durability, design versatility, and sleek style. Not only are the heaters aesthetically-pleasing, they’re reliable and can be easily implemented into even the most challenging designs.
