Designing a Better Outdoor Dining Experience at The Hall: Global Eatery

Infratech Visionary Anders Lasater and the award-winning team at Anders Lasater Architects have established a thriving luxury residential, boutique retail and hospitality practice. Their solutions maximize the best each site has to offer in terms of views, climate and exposures, for places that offer beautiful, comfortable and welcoming spaces on a personal scale, like at The Hall: Global Eatery in Costa Mesa, CA.

The architects were inspired by the European-style food hall and wanted to create a unique outdoor space for a fast-casual dining experience with something for everyone. It would incorporate four different restaurants under one room, all united by the theme of the interior design and the notion of a Mediterranean marketplace. “What better way to engage a customer than to give them access to the colors, textures, scents, smell, and taste of the culture those foods come from, then immersing them in that environment. The tactile quality of a space is what really connects the human to it,” says Principal Architect Anders Lasater.

When building the space, one of the main components that the architects had to take into consideration was user comfort. Infratech heating elements allow guests to utilize the patio year-round and enjoy the outdoor concept that was designed specifically with them in mind. “Who doesn’t want to be outside? It’s beautiful — with the olive trees, good food, good company, and the heaters definitely help!” says Ahmed Labbate, CEO and Partner at the Vaca Group of Culinary Artisans. “The guests love Infratech heaters because they are out of the way and they work efficiently, and the staff loves them even more because they don’t have to haul them in and out.” Portable propane heaters can be frustrating, inconvenient, and an insurance liability. Infratech’s infrared heaters help save on labor costs, seat more tables, and keep guests around longer. “The more comfortable you are, the longer you’re staying. If we didn’t have these, we’d probably have half of the tables we have,” says Labbate.

Our Solid State Control Package allows the restaurant to remotely control their flush mount WD-Series and ceiling mount Slimline heaters out of sight, and also set them on an automatic timer in case someone forgets to turn them off at the end of the night.

“Infratech products are efficient, easy to use, and will definitely be part of any project we do in the future. Overall, in the long term, you are saving a lot of money and a lot of headaches,” says Labbate. Infratech heating systems support the team’s desire to provide shelter, comfort, enclosure and definition in this outdoor space, in a way that aesthetically complements their vision.
