Lasater and his team’s work is guided by a desire to elevate people’s consciousness about the impact the built environment can have on the lifestyles of clients and their guests. They approach each project by identifying their clients’ unique needs, in order to create meaningful solutions that give people the spaces to enjoy the lives they want.

Before the Renovation It’s hard to imagine now, but this light filled, contemporary California farm house was once a tired and worn 1950s rancher lacking any of the style that made the 1950s cool and hip. Before the remodel, the newlywed homeowners met with Anders Lasater Architects to discuss how to build on the square footage and give some defining elements to make this house “wow”. Goals for Project We set out to create a luminous collection of thoughtfully organized volumes, while embracing the sunlight and view beyond. For this coastal home, the goal was to transformed the entire house into an ideal living space to form a backdrop for their daily family life.

I see our buildings as a vehicle to help people live those special moments in life.

— Anders Lasater

Inspirations for the Project
The inspiration was grounded in thoughtful consideration of intangible elements like light, space, proportion and materials, all of which come together to support a heightened sensory experience for the family & visitors. We wanted to maximize the best each site has to offer in terms of views, climate and exposures, for homes that offer beautiful, comfortable and welcoming spaces on a personal scale.

About the Design
The low windows in the main living space were replaced with large fixtures to frame the ocean view and serve as a main feature of the space. Giving the roof some height was a challenge, but Anders and his team were able to work within their limitations and give the house a renovated interior to give a spacious family feel.

Outdoor Design Approach
The homeowners had a really good idea of what they wanted and how a building needs to respond to their needs. Incorporating heaters into the outdoor patio was an essential amenity.

Integrating Infratech
Infratech heating systems support Lasater’s desire to provide shelter, comfort, enclosure and definition in an outdoor space, in a way that aesthetically complements the design vision. Infratech’s products are an easy decisions to add comfort and desirability of an outdoor space.

The sitting area in the great room and the steps of the entry courtyard are just a few of these special moments that bring detail and texture within reach of the family.

A view through the home to the setting sun and the glow of the fire pit makes this protected courtyard a perfect retreat from which to enjoy the coming sunset.

The setting sun is a welcome dinner companion as evening falls across the great room, filling the home with the amber glow of twilight.

Open, luminous, and organized for easy living, this home embraces big windows to enjoy the views from many areas in the house.

"[The client] had a lot of ideas, one of which was to incorporate these heaters into our outdoor design to enjoy the evenings year-round." -Anders Lasater
